The Fresno State Department of English will host the 39th annual Young Writers’ Conference at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Satellite Student Union featuring keynote speaker Maceo Montoya.

A California-based author, artist and educator, Montoya has published books in a variety of genres including his most recent book “Chicano Movement for Beginners.” In the visual arts, Montoya’s paintings, drawings and prints have been featured in exhibitions and publications internationally. A book collaboration with Fresno poet David Campos entitled “American Quasars” is forthcoming from Red Hen Press.

He is currently an associate professor in the Chicana/o Studies Department at UC Davis, where he teaches courses on Chicano culture and literature. The Young Writers’ Conference allows young writers to meet and interact with other student writers from across the Central Valley, to get a taste of what a university-level writing workshop might be like, and to get feedback on their writing.
