The Armenian Studies Program and Armenian Student Organization will commemorate the anniversary of the Armenian genocide at the Armenian Genocide Monument by distributing information and flowers from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 24, at the Maple Mall (south of the Satellite Student Union).

The Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee of Fresno invites the community at 6:30 p.m. for a ceremony. Participants will lay flowers around the center of the monument, which will be followed by a religious service and remarks by Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval. Karnig Kerkonian, esquire, an international and appellate lawyer, will deliver the keynote address. Kerkonian is the co-host of “Frontlines,” an online program on law, human rights and the Armenian experience.

The events mark the anniversary of the April 24, 1915, arrests of Armenian intellectuals and leaders by the Ottoman Empire, marking the beginning of a genocide in which 1.5 million Armenians were killed. Parking will be relaxed in the evening in lots P6, P1 and P2.
