Fresno State’s College Assistance Migrant Program will host 10 summer programs through July, providing access to academic, personal and professional resources for incoming first-year students from migrant families.

Over 600 students from Fresno, Kern, Tulare, Merced and Monterey counties are expected to participate in this series of day-long and residential programming, said Martin Luna, project assistant for the College Assistance Migrant Program.

The summer programs on campus include:

  • Migrant Summer Bridge, for Fresno students.
  • Migrant Summer University, for Fresno students.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Institute, for Monterey and Porterville students.
  • English Language Development Institute, for Fresno, Merced and Monterey students.
  • Super Scholars, for Monterey and Sanger students.

“Through these programs, students will be developing English skills, learning about STEAM education and careers, gaining exposure to the university environment, and/or continuing year-round educational topics to increase subject retention,” Luna said.

This series of programming is happening in conjunction with the California Department of Education’s Summer Food Service Program, which provides meals to participating students for the duration of their program.

Through its partnership with the Summer Food Service Program, Fresno State can offer students attending day programs a meal at lunchtime, while students attending residential programs will be offered meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
