The Fresno State Winery claimed medals for six of its seven entries at the West Coast College and University Wine Festival, which showcased California college and university winemaking programs June 10 at Allan Hancock College.

Two of Fresno State’s newly bottled white wines, its 2022 marsanne and 2022 vermentino, won the event’s only gold medals, while the latter also won the best white wine award. It added a silver medal for its 2021 pinot noir and bronze medals for its 2022 chardonnay, 2021 zinfandel and 2019 muscat canelli late harvest wines.

The competition was the first of its kind, and three other colleges received awards. Santa Rosa Junior College won the top red wine award for its 2021 pinot noir. Host institution Allan Hancock earned three silver and six bronze medals for its nine entries, and Las Positas earned one silver and three bronze medals among its five entries.

The sold-out, wine-tasting event welcomed over 200 people and included three other collegiate programs that hosted booths, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Mira Costa College and Napa Valley College; nine non-collegiate wineries; and seven restaurants.
