La Bienvenida, a Fresno State tradition, welcomes new and returning Latina/o/x students, faculty and staff to campus. Presented by the Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association, La Bienvenida will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Satellite Student Union on campus. 

It will feature traditional food (while supplies last), speakers, live DJ music and a photo booth. Fresno State Mariachi and Los Danzantes de Aztlán will provide live performances.

Sept. 15-Oct. 15: Hispanic-Latino/x Pride Digital Library. Sponsored by the Fresno State Library and the Cross Cultural and Gender Center, this resource is curated by Latino/a programs and services coordinator Cynthia Villalobos and librarian Ginny Barnes for Hispanic Heritage Month. 

Sept. 15-Oct. 15: Hispanic-Latino/x Figure Highlights. Visit La Casita de Helen Ramirez in the Cross Cultural and Gender Center (Thomas Building, Room 111) to learn more about trailblazers within the Hispanic community, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Sept. 15-Oct. 15: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, presented by the music and media department of the Fresno State Library (third floor, north wing), featuring an exhibit of items from the library’s collection by Hispanic performers or composers, as well as Hispanic music played in the department during operating hours.

Sept. 20: Documentary screening of “Change the Subject,” the true story of Hispanic students’ fight to change the “illegal alien” Library of Congress subject heading to “undocumented immigrant.” Presented by the Library Special Collections Research Center, this screening will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 2206 of the Fresno State Library (second floor, south wing).

Sept. 29: Noche de Baile, 7-10 p.m. at the South Lawn of the Resnick Student Union. Spotlight Events will host a free evening of music, food and vendors in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Contact: Anyssa Garza, anyssag@mail.fresnostate.edu.

Oct. 4: Meet Your Pueblo. Latino/a Programs and Services, in collaboration with Off-Campus Student Life, will be hosting a social networking event for students to meet peers by playing games related to the Latino/a community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Resnick Student Union (Room 207). Oct. 5: Tomás Casademunt ArtHop exhibition and reception, M Street Graduate Art Studios, 1419 M St. (at Tuolumne Ave.) in Downtown Fresno. The Día de los Muertos-themed show runs through Nov. 2, times to be determined. Contact: Martín Valencia, mvalencia@csufresno.edu.

Oct. 14: Eighth annual Feria de Educación. In partnership with Univision Communications Inc., Fresno State Outreach and Special Programs will host this event to assist primarily Spanish-speaking families and their students in accessing resources and information to prepare for college success, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Satellite Student Union. Special guests include Leo Gonzalez, a comedy writer and producer, and Beatriz Adriana, an actress and singer, plus a performance from Los Danzantes de Aztlán.
