Dr. Jenelle S. Pitt will receive the 2014 Rehabilitation Educator of the Year Award today in Southern California.
The award by the National Council on Rehabilitation Education honors an individual demonstrating outstanding ability as a rehabilitation educator. It will be presented at the organization’s awards ceremony during its national conference under way March 12-14 in Manhattan Beach.
Pitt joined the Fresno State faculty in 2009. She is an assistant professor in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development and coordinator of Fresno State’s Rehabilitation Counseling Program.
She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Riverside and her master’s and doctorate degrees in rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation counselor education from Michigan State University. Her research interests include cultural diversity and multiculturalism, rehabilitation counselor preparation and organizational behavioral practices in state vocational rehabilitation agencies.
Pitt has provided service in numerous capacities on the nominations, awards and scholarship committees of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the National Association of Multicultural Rehabilitation Concerns and the National Rehabilitation Association.
She also presently serves on the Disability Advisory Commission for the City of Fresno.
In addition to this honor, Pitt also recently received Fresno State’s Rosa Parks “Unsung Hero Award” for her commitment to the success of students and devotion to inspiring students to achieve excellence in all aspects of their life.
