The student-produced Fresno State Focus TV news show will host the fourth annual Global News Relay from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 29 featuring an interactive six-hour production with 17 universities around the world. This year’s theme is “Solutions Journalism” — ways in which journalists can report on significant issues while helping to make a difference in their communities. Tristan Lewis of Clovis and Mary Kate Paquette of Bakersfield will co-host the live news relay, along with Juan Avila of Porterville, Courtney Rodgers of Clovis, Edmer Archila of Mendota and Elsa Mejia of Madera. Students from the Fresno State Focus newscast will also contribute stories and interviews throughout the day. Jerry Gomez of Hanford will interview Chris Fiorentino, director of the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning, about service opportunities in the Central Valley. The newscast will also include live interactions between student journalists in other countries, including newscasts from India, England and Japan. The show will air live on CMAC. The Global News Relay was founded in 2014. Fresno State first participated in the event in April 2015 when it was hosted by the University of Salford in Manchester, England.
