Two Fresno State programs will participate in a special Fresno Police Department youth event at the West Fresno Family Resource Center 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, featuring the first “Nothing But Net” benefit basketball game at 7 p.m. in the Maxie Park Gymnasium between officers of the Fresno Police Southwest District and the EOC Fresno Street Saints.

Admission is free and open to the public but donations will be accepted to raise money to help provide the Southwest Fresno Community Centers with school supplies and equipment, according to Capt. Mark Salazar, a Fresno State criminology alumnus.

Three professors from the Criminology DepartmentDr. Chadley James, Dr. Jordan Pickering and Dr. Marcus Shaw — will provide information about Project Rebound, the Fresno State support program for formerly incarcerated/justice-system involved students.

Also, student ambassadors from the Outreach and Special Programs will join other area colleges in providing information about higher education opportunities and a financial aid workshop will also be featured.

Participating youth organizations include Big Brothers Big Sisters and Fresno’s Gang Prevention Initiative who will be tabling from 5 to 7 p.m. Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer will toss the opening tip off and several area pastors, many who collaborate with Fresno State’s Super Sunday program, will participate also.
