Fresno State will host several quality sports and education programs for children this summer. Here are the details:

Soccer Camp

The Fresno State women’s soccer team will sponsor summer camps. For additional information, contact the soccer office at 278-8302 or stacyw@csufresno.edu.

SKILLS CAMPS Ages: 6-12 yrs.

This camp focuses on technical development of youth players and covers the following: passing and receiving, defending and attacking, ball skills, finishing and heading. Campers are encouraged to improve their abilities in a fun and positive environment.

Cost: $125

Group Rate: $1,100.00

*Fee includes: Camp Ball, Camp t-shirt, Camper Evaluation, Completion Certificate and (2) tickets to Fresno State women’s soccer matches.

ADVANCED CAMP

This camp focuses on the tactical implementation of technical skills covered in our Skills Camps. It is recommended that players have 2-3 years of playing experience, although it is not required. Campers are encouraged to improve their abilities in a challenging and positive environment. Cost: $200, which includes lunch, camp ball, t-shirt, camper evaluation and completion certificate.

Purpose of Fundamentals and Techniques Camp: To teach each camper necessary techniques and fundamentals of successful position play. The practice sessions will also include 9 on 7, 7 on 7, one-on-one’s.

Deposit: $50.00 non-refundable deposit is required by June 1st. The balance of camp cost is due upon arrival. Camp is limited to 300 participants. Additional Costs: Campers are responsible for any damages to rooms, equipment, or facilities. A lost room key will result in $25.00 charge and a lost meal card is $10.00 cost.

Required equipment: You must have a helmet, chin strap, shoulder pads, pants, knee, hip, thigh and tail pads, mouth piece and football shoes. Overnight campers must bring their own pillow, blankets, toiletries, and personal items. No sheets or towels are provided. Sleeping bags are acceptable. lnsurance and Medical Care: Each camper must be covered by his parents’ medical insurance. A full-time trainer and assistants are on duty at all times.

Track and Field

The Fresno State track and field program will hold its annual summer camps and track meets beginning the third week of June. Three different camps are scheduled, while there are four tentative dates slated for summer meets. invent by having them design and build mock-ups of toys. As they develop their toys, participants make presentations to the teacher and work with other children in a variety of tasks. At the end of the program the kids get to keep their inventions.

This summer, we’re introducing a new camp: Kids Invent Digital Videos! In this program kids will learn how to shoot and edit their own digital video projects. First kids will learn basic photography and computer editing, with individual projects for each new technique covered. By the end of the week they will know how to create titles, add sound and video effects, create split screens, and do several different types of special effects. Kids will work individually and in groups to produce six videos, culminating in their own 5

to 10-minute movie and a 30-second trailer.

Science Camps

The office of Continuing and Global Education — Extension Programs offers science camps for children in K-61″ grades. Camps meet from 8:30 a.m. -3 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Registration from May 4-14 will be $249 per camp, and there is a one-time discount of $10 for two or more children from the same family and two or more weeks. Registration after May 14 is subject to availability and the cost is $259.

Summer Science Day Camps are presented by Science Enrichment Services, Inc., www.Scienceadventures.com. The sessions are:

• June 14-18, The Great Dinosaur Mystery: Join Gizabelle and Gizmo and become a Dino Detective. Unearth clues, bone by bone, in a search for a fossil treasure that ends right at your campsite. It’s a wild chase through the natural sciences with squid dissection, Sea-Monkeys, a real matorite and more! Join the hunt and take a bite out of science.

• June 21-25, Robo Tech X-treme: Be one of the first to build Buggy, Gizmo’s largets walking K’nex robot ever! Campers will have the opportunity to discover rainbow crystal ice cream and the upside down world of gravity racers. Experiment with touchable bubbles, slippery slime and the invisible force of magnetism. Gizmo combines the fun of physics and excitement of technology in a camp designed to excite and expand the mind.

• July 12-16, Newton’s Motion Maddness: Master the forces of physics and harness the power of the electron to create the night crawler, an electrically powered vehicle able to cross the roughest terrain. Traverse land, sea, and sky with magnetic cars, submarines, and rocket planes. Create a bouncing superball and march a marionette in the never-ending race to go higher, faster, and farther in a whirling world of motion.

• July 19-23, Space and Rocketry ’04: Embark on your journey as you build and launch the solid-fueled Screamer model rocket. Investigate the mysteries of our solar system from the sands of Mars to the icy rings of Saturn. Explore the far reaches of space as campers design a Mars Rover, build a telescope and discover the dark secret of black holes in a cosmic voyage to the edge of our universe.

Kids Invent!, a Craig Business School-related event, is running a total of four camps at Fresno State this summer. The traditional camp, Kids Invent Toys, will be the first camp beginning June 14 for kids in 4th — 8th grades. Kids Invent Robots begins June 28 and Advanced Robots is offered July 12. A new Digital Videos camp starts July 19.

Reading Skills Programs

The Division of Continuing and Global Education — Extension Programs offers Speed Reading and Reading Skills Programs for Children and Adults. Classes for children include:

• Phonics, comprehension, fluency, love of reading programs for 4-year-olds through children entering fifth grade.

• Comprehension, speed reading, study skills for children entering sixth through eight grades and ninth through 11th grades.

Bulldog CAFÉ — New this year!

The Division of Continuing and Global Education — Extension Programs is offering a new summer day camp for children that focuses on culinary skills, nutrition and physical activity.

At Bulldog CAFE your child will:

– develop basic culinary skills – prepare fun, tasty, and healthy food

– learn how to be safe in the kitchen

– practice healthy eating

– participate in a variety of physical activities

– discover foods from different cultures

– visit the university farm

– eat a healthy snack and lunch!

Parents must read and sign appropriate camp releases including camp dress. Children must be able to follow directions from camp counselors, Children posing a risk to themselves or others will be asked to leave.
