(July 8, 2016) — Per President Barack Obama’s proclamation, Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro directed that the University’s flags be lowered to half-staff in memory of the Dallas police officers killed July 7. Five officers were killed and seven others were injured including two civilians.

The flags at three locations on campus — the Save Mart Center, the Veterans Memorial Monument (Thomas Building Rose Garden) and the North Gym — will be lowered to half-staff at noon until sunset today and daily through July 12 per the proclamation.

“We at Fresno State are profoundly saddened by the tragedy that occurred in Dallas,” Castro said. “We pray that the turmoil our nation has endured with these reoccurring tragedies will be overcome through a collective effort by all. Our campus and nation are stronger when we consistently respect each other, especially when we might disagree, and focus on strategies that lift and unite us rather than divide us.”
