Roundtable discussions focus on indigenous child services April 19

Three renowned professors in the field of indigenous curriculum development and policies — Margaret Kovach, Monty Montgomery and Michael Yellow Bird — will visit Fresno State for two free public roundtable discussions Wednesday, April 19. The first event, “Decolonizing Child & Family Services: Steps to Reconciliation with Canada’s First Peoples and a Perspective from across the Border” from 10 a.m. to noon in the University Student Union (Room 312-314), will focus on how the doctrine of discovery impacts child and family services in indigenous communities. The second discussion, “Decolonizing Research Ethics: A roundtable Discussion” will be from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Henry Madden Library (Room 2108). They will feature Kovach, University of Saskatchewan professor; Montgomery, a University of Regina professor; and Michael Yellow Bird, director of Indigenous Studies at North Dakota State University.
